Exciting news from the Foundation … we added a DBA to the Foundation structure and can now do business as “Grapevine United Charities”. Isn’t that a great addition! We still operate the exact same but will be able to represent ourselves and the labors of our many committees as one unified effort! We will now work to incorporate the name addition into our printed and digital presence. We will also work to write more grant requests to major donors. We will keep you posted on our progress.
Our Alumni Association is going strong! We have 267 alumni who we have been in contact with. We are excited to be rekindling these personal and professional relationships. Be sure to LIKE our Facebook Page. We have posted many pictures from the past years. Alumni are finding their class photos and tagging friends. Videos are there, too. This has been a lot of fun! You will also find the Alumni Event Schedule posted with easy links to RSVP to activities. Alumni events always include a special little perk for attending so hope to see you soon!
Each September, we celebrate Kathee Livengood’s birthday and raise money for educational scholarships we grant to deserving women. Kathee was an amazing volunteer, community leader and friend to many. Since inception, this scholarship committee has raised $72,000 benefiting 42 women. These women’s lives have been changed forever so come help us keep the momentum going!
KATHEE LIVENGOOD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Kathee Livengood was a successful Realtor but found the time to belong to, or support, almost every civic organization and “cause” in Grapevine. She was known as the Beer Diva for supervising the Chamber beer booths and she was the expert everyone went to for help with auctions. She worked at every Main Street Days Festival and every GrapeFest until her death. Over the years her passion for helping people was instrumental in raising thousands of dollars to assist the elderly and children through GRACE and the Women’s Division, people injured and disabled through the Joey Wilkins Foundation and anyone who was touched by cancer by founding the Relay for Life event in Grapevine.
We lost Kathee, Grapevine’s #1 volunteer, in May of 2012 and several of her friends wanted to find a special way to honor her. She had no children and no close relatives to help preserve her legacy with a scholarship. We wanted it to be different from the usual good grades, financial need type for college students.
It was our final decision to do something to provide financial assistance to women that needed assistance to attend a trade or vocational school or further their education to redirect their lives and provide a better future for them and their children.
The Kathee Livengood Memorial Scholarship program is an integral part of the Grapevine Chamber Foundation which is a charitable organization recognized by the IRS as tax-exempt under section 501c3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions are tax-deductible as permitted by law. No goods or services will be provided in exchange for your charitable contribution. The committee is composed of Clydene Johnson, Chairman, Darlene Freed, Duff O’Dell, Kathrine Brink, and Janice Kane.
