John Luis Matheus’ family moved to Grapevine right before his father, Julio Matheus, opened Boi Na Braza Brazilian Steakhouse here in Grapevine in 2000. Julio and his brothers brought the unique dining concept from their native Brazil. John’s parents are both from Brazil, but he was raised in Grapevine from elementary school all the way to graduating from Grapevine High School. Having grown up working in the restaurant with his brother Joshua, it was only natural for John to return to the family business though spending 7 years away after college working in oil & gas and automotive. His journey so far has taken him from Grapevine to Houston to Brazil and all over the world, with a return to good ol’ Grapevine last year with his wife. And to keep that hometown spirit alive, their daughter was born on August 1, 2020, here in wonderful Grapevine.

Boi Na Braza was actually the first “fine-dining” steakhouse in Grapevine, having opened in 2000. The unique, white-bricked building that was built specifically for the steakhouse itself, suits it’s unique dining experience and elegant ambience. With a capacity of 424 occupants and several private rooms, this grandiose venue with a ballroom entrance has been extremely popular for birthday celebrations, anniversary dinners, graduation parties, wedding ceremonies, corporate parties, and of course date nights. Since COVID came about, there have been a few, big changes to the steakhouse in order to adapt with the times. The family decided to stay true to their traditional Brazilian roots, while at the same time catering to a new way of dining. Don’t worry, the variety of meats are still carved table-side by their Brazilian Gaúcho chefs. Also, the family has also decided to do away with the cigar lounge and instead have a smoke-free bar lounge that will soon feature live Bossa Nova (Brazilian jazz) music.
